The Chinese Arts and Music Association will be presenting its delightful 24th annual music celebration, in a special concert to benefit the ministry of Newport Covenant Church. This show highlights over 5,000 years of ancient Chinese music, as performed by the Seattle Chinese Orchestra, N.W. Guzheng Ensemble, N.W. JIGU Ensemble, and the U.S. China Music Ensemble. The art of celebrated Chinese painter, Mr. Budong Zhao, will also be on display in the lobby of the church. Don’t miss these exciting Chinese cultural gems!

The featured performance, beginning at 3:00 p.m, showcases the talented Ms. Buyun Zhao and her N.W. JIGU Ensemble. Ms. Zhao is not only the Director of the Washington Chinese Youth Orchestra, but she is considered one of the world’s foremost performers on the Guzheng, the PiPa (lute), and the Yang Qin (dulcimer). She was already well-known to Chinese audiences as China’s first female jazz drummer, prior to immigrating to the United States. Once Buyun joined the Chinese Arts and Music Association, in Seattle, she also became the founder and Director of the Chinese Youth Drum Corps.

Special conductor Roger Nelson, will conduct the combined youth and adult orchestra, and several soloists, including Ting-Ting Chang on the Erhu, and Wayne Yee on the bamboo flute.

General admission tickets are available, at the door, with a $10 donation. Reserved seat tickets can be purchased for $20 by calling (206) 762-8899.

This concert is partially sponsored by the Seattle Mayor’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, King County 4Culture, KUOW-FM, China Harbor Restaurant, and the Washington First Int’l Bank.
